Belay reads prices from Finnhub. A free key covers everything it needs.
Free keys cover live quotes and symbol search. They don't cover historical candles, which is why Belay builds its own history one close at a time.
How often Belay checks prices and evaluates your lines.
Retries two and four hours later if a check fails. Always Eastern, so it follows the market rather than the server's clock.
Refreshes prices in the browser during market hours only. It doesn't evaluate lines or send alerts — those still run on the schedule above.
Each refresh costs one Finnhub call per ticker. Pausing when the tab is hidden and when the market is closed keeps this well inside the free tier, but a very short interval on a long watchlist can still crowd out the daily check.
Only used when checking through the day. Finnhub's free tier allows about 60 calls a minute, so five minutes suits most watchlists.
Alerts post to a channel through a webhook.
Channel settings → Integrations → Webhooks → New Webhook.
One message per check, listing everything that tripped.
Separate several addresses with commas.
Applied to new tickers. Existing lines keep their own values.
How far a price must recover before the same line can alert again. Without this, a stock hovering at the line alerts on every check.
Moves beyond this are still sent, but labelled as a possible split. Belay never withholds a large move.
